To harness the expertise of the FISITA community to effectively deploy intelligent safety systems in the quest to eliminate road traffic fatalities and severe injuries.
1. Collaboratively create an authoritative and industry-leading FISITA Expert Group white paper on the use of intelligent vehicle safety technology to protect vulnerable road users
2. Prepare and deliver Intelligent Safety Expert Group webinar
3. Develop and progress second-phase scope of work
4. Present keynote at FISITA World Mobility Conference 2027
The current focus of the FISITA Intelligent Safety Expert Group is on the use of intelligent safety technology for the protection of vulnerable road users. Around half of the 1.2 million people killed in road traffic incidents around the world each year are vulnerable road users (VRUs) – defined in the EU ITS Directive as “non-motorised road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists as well as motorcyclists and persons with disabilities or reduced mobility and orientation”.
Although much can be done to protect VRUs through infrastructure design and urban planning, regulation and policy, and education, this expert group is exploring ways in which automakers and suppliers can deploy existing and next-generation intelligent vehicle technology to reduce road traffic fatalities, severe injuries, and property damage.
Expert considerations on the safety of an electric vehicle from concept through end of life.
The FISITA Intelligent Safety White paper is a snapshot in time, a consensus of “how we design intelligent safety” for features from L1 to L3 and L4. It is authored by safety experts within the FISITA membership community, who are responsible for the continuous improvement of safety, thanks to a never-ending appropriation of new technologies and harmonized by standards and regulations.
