As we move into the last quarter of the year, the FISITA team have been engaging with our community on a global level. From WNEVC in China, IAA Mobility in Europe, to Automotive Testing Expo North America, Novi, USA.

WNEVC China’s largest electric mobility congress
Hainian China 24 – 27 Sept 2025

FISITA CEO, Chris Mason, is on the board of the World New Energy Vehicle Development Organization (WNEVDO), which organises WNEVC. He spoke at the 2025 WNEVC in Haikou, Hainan on 27 September.

Chris spoke on behalf of FISITA alongside speakers from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the China Society of Automotive Engineers. The agenda also featured senior executives from Porsche AG, Mercedes-Benz Group China Ltd., Hydrogen Factory, Audi and SAIC Cooperation Project, Daimler Truck China Ltd., Infineon Technologies, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co., Ltd., Huawei Digital Power, Horizon Robotics, CALB Group Co., Ltd., and top executives from FISITA members BYD, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited. (CATL), and Geely Auto Group.

Intelligent Safety Conference China 2025

FISITA President ChangHwan Kim delivered a speech at the opening of the 2025 Intelligent Safety Conference China (ISCC), organised by FISITA in partnership with China SAE.

ChangHwan Kim underlined FISITA’s role in setting trends and supporting new ideas to make mobility safer, greener, and more human-centric in the face of rapid transformation in mobility being driven by electrification, autonomous driving, and the evolution of smart city technology.

Safety is a cornerstone of FISITA’s mission, he said, and is crucial for innovation and trust in new technologies. ChangHwan referenced the FISITA Intelligent Safety Expert Group, chaired by Armin Karle of Bosch, which focuses on deploying intelligent vehicle safety systems to protect vulnerable road users (VRUs); and he noted FISITA’s collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations specialised agency for digital technology.

FISITA is closely involved in the UN’s ITU, which has three expert groups looking at vehicular communications for road traffic safety, the technical and economic sustainability for vehicular communications, and the use of V2X technology for advanced emergency braking to protect VRUs.

ISCC 2025 took place in Xi’an, China, over the weekend of 13-14 September, bringing together corporate and academic safety experts for discussions and presentations on intelligent vehicle safety technology.

IAA Mobility 2025 Munich Germany

The 2025 IAA Mobility took place in Munich this month, featuring notable launches from German automakers, and a strong presence of Chinese vehicle manufacturers.

Artificial intelligence (AI), software-defined vehicle (SDV) innovations, and electrification dominated the show, and while the automakers grabbed the headlines, suppliers also had plenty of innovation on display.

According to FISITA’s Ambassador for Germany, Christoph Stuermer, the German OEMs presented their most advanced and ambitious battery electric vehicle (BEV) offerings, and the Chinese OEMs brought an impressive portfolio of BEV products for the European and overseas markets.

At the event, Christoph joined FISITA member A2MAC1 for an expert session on “Sustainable Design through CO2 Benchmark Analysis”. Dr Miranda Jarvis, Sustainability & Carbon Footprint Specialist at A2MAC1, opened the session with a 15-minute presentation on the topic, offering practical recommendations for minimising environmental impact in vehicle design. She was then joined on stage by Christoph, who led a fireside chat on broader issues, including emerging trends, regulatory policies, and industry practices influencing sustainability in vehicle design. Miranda is an active member of the FISITA Circular Economy and Carbon Neutral Mobility Expert Groups, and the discussion addressed current and prospective strategies that automakers are using – or could use – to address forthcoming challenges.

Christoph also attended the IAA Mobility edition of the World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC), which featured representatives from German and Chinese automakers and suppliers.

North American Ambassador Scott Craig speaking at The Future of Automotive Testing Conference

Scott Craig, the FISITA ambassador for North America, is hosting a panel at The Future of Automotive Testing Conference, taking place at Automotive Testing Expo North America (Novi, Michigan), on Wednesday, October 22.

The themes of the conference, and conversation with Scott cover FISITA’s plans in supporting the future direction of automotive mobility engineering, such as the testing of advanced technologies (EVs, AVs, SDVs ) and the advancements in testing technologies themselves – data-driven testing, AI and digital twinning.

Expert Groups

FISITA Expert Groups provide a unique opportunity for experts in their field to interact with industry colleagues in the pre-competitive space facilitated by FISITA.

Expert Groups are member-led, and in addition to the existing Expert Group portfolio, the FISITA Technical Team is holding exploratory discussions with FISITA members and other interested parties over potential new groups on topic areas including:

  • Propulsion Technology (propulsion-specific topics in ICE and electrification)
  • New Energy Vehicles (topics unique to NEVs)
  • Motorsport (track/road technology transfer)
  • Software-defined vehicle
  • Steering
  • Lighting

Readers of this newsletter are invited to reach out to FISITA to join these discussions, or to propose other topics for Expert Group consideration. Please contact FISITA CTO Martin Kahl ([email protected]) for more information.
